Documents from the Federal Communications Commission have given gamers an insight into exactly what developers are dealing with for the PS4 dev kit. The most interesting difference between the two versions is the maximum clocking capabilities of the systems CPU.

Details of the PS4 dev kit, full title ‘DUH-D1000AA prototype Development Kit’, from the FCC has given us a glimpse into what we could expect from the full potential of its retail counterpart. The maximum clock frequency of the PS4 dev kit is 2.7 Ghz which is a fair increase from the 1.6 Ghz core frequency we were told the 8-core Jaguar based AMD CPUs in the PS4 would be running. Keep in mind, the operating temperature of the PS4 dev kit is recommended to be 5-35 degrees celsius.

The dev kit weighs in at approximately 6kg, around 3.2kg heavier than the PS4 retail console, and is a bit wider and taller than the PS4 retail console. We can see from the design that the sleekness of the retail console has been put to one side to make room for additional cooling, rack mounts and additional indicator lights and ports.

You can see the full specifications of the PS4 dev kit as well as what it looks like with it’s make-up on in the images below:
