Sony have announced a fantastic new giveaway, Bid For Greatness, that offers PSN members to bid and win special ultra-rare PlayStation memorabilia using their PSN trophies as currency.
The giveaway, dubbed Bid For Greatness, will offer PlayStation gamers the opportunity to win a fantastic array of real-life weapons, costumes and props from the “Greatness Awaits” trailer shown during this years E3. Prizes include a Infected Clicker Costume from critically-acclaimed The Last Of Us, a Dragonborn Dagger from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Captain Kenway’s Outfit from Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and much more.
PlayStation gamers with a PSN ID can log into BidForGreatness.com which will automatically tally up all your gold trophies, which you use for bidding. There are 15 unique items up for auction, with a new one being added each day. Trophy hunters need not fret as you’ll still get to keep your actual trophies that you use to bid.

Tragically, the competition is only open to the US, meaning that those of us outside the ole US of A will just have to watch and weep as all these amazing prizes are snatched up. Hopefully if this giveaway proves to be a success, Sony will run a similar promotion for the rest of the world. It’ll also be interesting to see if Microsoft run a similar campaign and finally find a proper use for GamerScore.
