Ever wanted to be in an Oddworld game? Oddworld Inhabitants are looking for some voices for the the natives and workers of RuptureFarms in Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty and are asking the gaming community to provide them.
Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty is the name given to the up-to-date, neostalgic re-creation of the 1997 PSX and PC classic Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee and will feature fully 3D rendered environments with ‘2.5D’ gameplay. As part of the redesign, Oddworld Inhabitants are also rerecording all the original games audio and are offering the fans to be the voices of the Mudokons.
To take part, you will need.
- Decent microphone for recording your voice
- Soundcard or Audio Interface capable of 24bit/96kHz recording
- Good cables (if there’s electrical feedback, they can’t use it)
- The script to read out
- A SoundCloud account
Whilst Oddworld Inhabitants aren’t offering a guarantee that they will use your voice in the final game, it’s certainly worth a shot for anyone who has dreamed of being in a video game. For those wanting to try, here’s a copy of the script:
- Hello / Hi
- OK
- Laughing
- Giggling
- Angry hissing
- Pain grunts (oof, ow, eugh, etc) x5
- Death screams x3
- Bonus points for providing some sound effects for the wildlife of Mudos (birds, Scrabs, Elums, etc.)
To enter your sample, simply upload your audio and share it with the Oddworld Inhabitants account on SoundCloud either public or privately shared. Please put your name in the title and file name so they know who’s who and multiple takes are encouraged but the file must be 24BIT/96KHZ WAV FORMAT, and downloadable from SoundCloud.
Once you send your recording to the Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty team, and if it meets the quality standards, they’ll “alter and fiddle with the sound of your voice to really make you into a Mudokon”. The deadline for submissions is Friday 26th July, 2013, so act fast!
Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty will be coming to PS3, PS4, PS Vita Wii U, Windows, Linux and Mac OS X from Holiday 2013.
