Retailer Toys R Us has issued a new statement following their confirmation of the Xbox One and PS4 release dates on their website, offering their “sincerest apologies”.
Specific release dates for both the next gen consoles were listed on the Toys R Us website last week, citing November 29th for the Xbox One and December 13th, 2013 for the PS4. When the retailer was questioned as to whether these dates were “accurate, or just a best-guess scenario”, a spokesperson responded that the “information has been given direct from our suppliers and is accurate.”
It seems that Toys R Us are now trying to cover up their spilled beans, or genuinely did give out incorrect information, as they have released the following statement to BT Games:
“Please accept my sincerest apologies for the incorrect information you were given yesterday regarding the Xbox One and Playstation 4 Console official release dates.
“The release dates are not provided by either Microsoft or Sony, but are an estimated date and are required by our system to allow us to take pre-orders. Once the correct launch dates are officially provided we will update our web site and contact any customers who have ordered.”
As expected, somebody at Toys R Us got a slapped wrist and made a complete goof. Whether this goof is announcing the release dates early or giving out misinformation will remain unknown until Microsoft and Sony make their official statements on the consoles release dates. December 13th and Black Friday do seem like very odd choices, though.
