Newswire: New Thief Trailer, Unreal 4 PS4 Demo, Ouya Release Date

In this weeks Newswire, we take a look at the brand new Thief trailer, a real-time Unreal engine 4 tech demo, the Ouya release date and much more. Here’s a round up of the past weeks biggest and best gaming news.

New Thief Trailer Confirms New Voice Actor

Eidos Montreal have released a new trailer for the return of Thief which does confirm that the Stephen Russell won’t be returning to voice the series protagonist, Garrett, in the new game. The game will be coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, PC and “other next-generation consoles.”

According to the the blurb, “there is a rising tide of fear in The City. Hatred saturates every stone and whilst the rich prosper, the less fortunate face misery and repression. Ravaged with sickness and famine, they wait for something to change.”

“Into this shadowy world steps Garrett the Master Thief in a first-person adventure featuring intelligent design that allows players to take full control, with freedom to choose how they approach and overcome each challenge and forge their own path through the game.”

Crytek To Bid On Darksiders IP

Darksiders was left by the wayside in the aftermath of the THQ bankruptcy auction at the beginning of the year, however Crytek have now stated that they intend to bid on the IP once it does go up for auction. You can see what other IP’s went where in our previous coverage.

Former Vigil Games head and now Crytek USA boss David Adams stated on Twitter that they are “going to bid on Darksiders IP. Put 7 years of heart and soul into that franchise, and I think it belongs at home with its creators.” We couldn’t agree more, David. Best of luck!

Bungie Show Off Destiny Character Development & Concept

Bungie have released a video from their GDC 2013 presentation which “provides a rare glimpse into the character art, development and design of Destiny.” Those looking forward to the game have the opportunity to see content from early sketches and concept art, to animation and in-engine 3D character models.

Destiny takes place in Earth’s future, amid the ruins of humanity’s “Golden Age”. Humans have been driven back to the last city on Earth, built in the shadow of the mysterious, spherical Traveller. You can find out more about Destiny by checking out our Destiny: Just The Facts article.

Ouya Gets A Release Date

Although Kickstarter project backers will start receiving their Ouya consoles this very month, the Android chipset based system will be made available to all in the UK and North America on June 4th, 2013 – priced at $99.

Running on Android 4.0, the Ouya console features a Tegra3 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB of internal flash storage, HDMI connection to the TV, with support for up to 1080p HD, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth LE 4.0, one USB 2.0 and ethernet. The console comes bundled with a wireless controller featuring two analog sticks, d-pad, eight action buttons, a system button, and a touchpad.

Unreal 4 Engine Real-Time PS4 Demo Released

With the arrival of the next-generation of consoles on the horizon, everyone is keen to show off just how their new engines look on the new hardware. The video above showcases what buyers of the PS4 can expect from the Unreal 4 Engine and we must say, it’s looking mighty impressive.

Kojima Productions have also given fans a glimpse into next-gen graphics with some footage from their new FOX engine during the unveiling of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain. Creative Assembly Releasing Free To Play Total War Title

Creative Assembly, the team behind the Total War series, have announced a brand new free to play title in the franchise titled Total War: Arena. Lead Designer James Russell announced the new game at this years GDC 2013 as well as noting that closed beta sign ups are open now.

Total War: Arena is said to offer players the chance to pitch history’s greatest commanders and their armies against each other in massive team-based battles. The game will focus entirely on online multiplayer, mixing elements of RTS and MOBA gameplay in their first free to play game.
