In this weeks Newswire, we take a look at details for Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon, the new Black Ops 2 Uprising DLC and much more. Here’s a round up of the past weeks biggest and best gaming news.
Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon Is A Real Thing
Originally thought to be an April Fools joke from Ubisoft, it turns out that Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is in fact very real and will be coming to the Xbox Live Marketplace as a standalone title on May 1st. There’s currently no news on if and when it will be arriving on other platforms.
According to the blurb, “Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon is THE Kick-Ass Cyber Shooter taking place on a bizarre open-world island crawling with evil. Welcome to an 80’s VHS vision of the future. The year is 2007 and you are Sargent Rex Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando who’s fighting against a cyborg army gone rogue. Your mission: get the girl, kill the baddies, and save the world. Experience every cliché of a VHS era vision of a nuclear future, where cyborgs, blood dragons, mutants, and Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, Navy Seals) collide.”
Disney Closes LucasArts – Star Wars 1313 Cancelled
Late last week, Disney released a statement that they would be closing games studio LucasArts – effectively cancelling the highly anticipated Star Wars 1313 amongst any other future titles. The statement from Disney reads “After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.”
In light of this news, I wrote a very personal article about my lifetime spent playing LucasArts, my mental illness, and what the closure means to me and the future of the point and click genre. You can find out more and get a good does of nostalgia by reading A Lifetime With LucasArts: Gone But Not Forgotten.
New Pokemon X & Y Reveal Looks More Than Familiar
For anyone in their 20s, you’ll remember the playground commotion around Mewtwo and how nuts everyone went when the first Pokemon movie came out and revealed the fabled Mew. Well Nintendo seem to be trying to replicate that hype for new games Pokemon X & Y with the reveal of a new Pokemon that looks much like the genetically-created Mewtwo.
Whether it’s trying to replicate old hype or if they’ve simply run out of ideas, Nintendo allude that this new Pokemon shares many traits with Mewtwo, including a light-purple body and piercing, powerful eyes. The previous new Pokemon to be revealed was Sylveon – another evolution of Eevee. We’ve got to ask again, do we really need more Pokemon?!
Deep Silver Announce Dead Island Riptide Zombie Wedding Winners
Deep Silver are becoming pretty well known for their fairly batshit mental promo ideas (lest we forget the hugely controversial Dead Island Riptide Torso Edition) but they might have hit a whole new level of crazy with the announcement of the winners of their Dead Island Riptide zombie-themed wedding.
Dead Island fans Jennifer Jones and Rob Blackmore will be getting hitched in a zombie-themed wedding on 23rd April 2013 at One Mayfair in London. he bride will arrive for the ceremony in the specially customised Dead Island Riptide pickup truck, where the couple will make their everlasting vows to one another. The ceremony will be followed by speeches and a first dance, with music provided by an undead mariachi band. All the best, you nutjobs.
